1. Why Josephine Yeh?
Innovation and inspiration: Creative problem-solving is my passion. I design and teach my own learning techniques and strategies – and students love them.
Empathic, Dynamic Partnership: Connecting with my students and staying curious about their world. A supportive, dynamic partnership helps them gain confidence in their own abilities and overcome self-imposed limitations.
Purposeful Training: Strategic practice with focused, engaged attention. I carefully observe how students perform their work – not just what they produce. By learning how to practice smarter, students exceed their own expectations.
Holistic Approach: My students develop emotional tools such as self-awareness, stress management, and resilience – keys to healthy academic success and performance excellence.
Responsive Communication: Friendly and timely responses to all your questions. Both students and parents also receive weekly updates with session feedback and next steps.
2. Is academic mentoring right for my child?
Academic mentoring is one of the best long-term investments you could make in your child’s academic growth. One-on-one sessions have several advantages over traditional classroom instruction:
A personalized curriculum for your child’s specific temperament and needs: Tailored sessions ensure focus on areas where your child most needs help, without the distractions of the classroom environment.
Solid work habits promote academic success: One-on-one sessions provide focused insight into your child’s thinking process and work habits. Careful assessment of how your child approaches schoolwork — and recalibrating study patterns to better promote long-term success — is one of the primary advantages of one-on-one mentoring over traditional classroom instruction.
Positive environment builds confidence and motivation: A safe environment helps your child feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, without having to worry about peer judgment. Your child develops skill for the topic in question at his or her own pace, followed by positive reinforcement to build confidence and motivation.
3. How many sessions before we see results?
Academic mentoring is a long-term investment in your child’s intellectual growth and academic success. The most significant and lasting changes happen over time, which is typically three to nine months of consistent, weekly sessions.
4. How much homework do you assign?
Students are encouraged to complete an average of 3 hours of deliberate practice per week. To get the most out of their homework and our sessions, students should do a little each day (30 minutes per day, 5 days a week) rather than a lot all at once.
5. How often do we meet?
Students commit to one or two sessions per week at their regular weekly time slot(s). Sessions last 1.25 to 2 hours, depending on the needs of the student.
6. Where are your sessions?
Sessions can be held at your home, at my home office, or over Skype.
